Suddenly

Life is sudden. We let each day pass and we usually take each day that we have for granted. We are blessed with healthy bodies, homes, family, the Gospel, friends, and so much more that are so easily taken for granted. After this weekend I know I do.
Friday afternoon around 2 pm I received a call from my mom and I let it go to voice mail. When I had the chance I listened to the voice mail, all she said was "Honey, please call me" not a normal voice mail I could tell in her voice something was wrong. Immediately I called her back and she started to tell me that my cousin Porter who plays rugby and is an amazing athlete had to go to the hospital because his ankle was swollen she continued to tell me that it was more than a swollen ankle in the back of my mind I said to myself please don't say tumor and right then those words left her mouth breaking my heart. She called back a few hours later "Porter has cancer" as tragic as those words are Porter who is 15 is strong! And I have faith that his body will fight and get rid of it all.
Times like these you don't know what to say or how to comfort the people who are closest to him. All I could think of was the scripture: John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
I found comfort in this scripture and I hope that my aunt and uncle and their beautiful family finds comfort in the Lords words as well. I have learned that in times of trials the best thing to do is seek the Lord by prayer, going to the temple, blessings, and scripture study. The Lord will never leave you alone. Today Mike & I went to the Temple we had a great experience and left feeling comforted and hopeful that Porter will be able to serve a mission and live a normal life. We love our family very much! We have a special place for Porter & the Thorkleson family in our hearts & we hope you do as well. My beautiful cousin Tati (Porters oldest sister) blogged about these events today and I cried as I read it over and over again. My heart is so full of love for her and Porter, Kels, Syd & Hannah. You guys are phenomenal.
